Endodontics
Endodontics is a type of dentistry involving dental pulp and tissue surrounding the roots of one’s tooth. Endodontic treatment consists of saving teeth by treating the pulp tissue inside of the tooth.
Inside of a tooth is a hollow space that has soft tissue otherwise known as pulp. Tooth decay, cracks, or other reasons can result in the pulp getting irritated and can lead to infection. When the pulp becomes infected an endodontic treatment is necessary, if not then future complications will become prevalent.
Endodontic Treatment
The early stages of this procedure consist of x-rays and a diagnosis of the problem followed by a treatment plan. The actual procedure begins by isolating the tooth with a rubber dam to protect the rest of the patient’s mouth and throat from unwanted fluids. The impaired pulp is then removed and the tooth and carefully cleaned, filled, and sealed. Lastly, a crown will be added to the exterior of the tooth for added protection.
Maintaining healthy dental hygiene is very important and can often be overlooked. Having a healthy mouth will allow you to eat the foods you want and reduce the number of dental procedures you will need. That is why it is crucial to receive the proper care when addressing serious tooth issues. At Smile Reston Heights, we are experts in endodontic treatments and get you fixed up right away!
